According to former U.S. vice-president Al Gore, the Conservatives' new environmental platform is a ``complete and total fraud" that is "designed to mislead the Canadian people."
His comments were made while presenting his documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" in Toronto at a consumer environmental show, with Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and environmentalist David Suzuki in attendance.
The Conservative plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2020 from today's levels (2007). Today Canada emits 30% more than in 1990 (compare to Kyoto requirement to reduce emissions by 20% from 1990 to 2012). That actually represents a 5% increase from 1990 levels, not the 25% reduction from 1990 levels that Canada has committed to.
