Now it's Pigs on the Highway

Last month it was cows on the highway and today it was pigs.

The eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 401, east of Winston Churchill, were closed Monday, after a tractor-trailer hauling a load of pigs overturned and caught on fire.

The livestock truck burned, with several of the injured animals trapped inside. Some of the pigs wandered along the eastbound lanes of the highway.

Animal control and Mississauga firefighters teamed up to gather about 50 pigs that were on the loose.

They OPP said that when officials first arrived on the scene two pigs were so severely injured and suffering that they were shot by officers.
