I know I'm being judgmental but what kind of an adult puts a 7 year old on a plane alone for a 10-hour flight with a note for return to an adoption agency without any adult supervision, without any notice to the agency and without an explanation to the child. That is what Torry-Ann Hansen did this week in a story that has become viral.
Artyom Savelyev was adopted from Russia six months ago by Torry-Ann Hansen of Shelbyville, TN but turned out to be more difficult and more damaged than she was made aware by the Russian adoption agency. The rationale was that "he drew a picture of our house burning down and he'll tell anybody that he's going to burn our house down with us in it." Well what did you expect from a child who had already been abandoned once and was living in an orphanage?
Child abandonment is a reprehensible act and this poor child had already been victimized far too much already. Adopting a child is not like picking up a stray puppy from the humane society. You can't change your mind and return him. Adoption is a legal procedure that is permanent. You are a parent for life.
Her complaints about not being fully informed of the boy's problems is not an acceptable reason for abandoning the child. The only failure of the agency was not properly reviewing the suitability of Torry-Ann Hansen.

Welcome to Parenthood Torry-Ann (nice stripper spelling of her name by the way)... sometimes kids are a pain in the ass. It's not all ribbons and bunnies. It's damn hard work and this poor kid deserved a chance at a good life.
Yes, it sucks that she wasn't told all the facts but no child comes with a guarantee.. not even the ones that come from our own bodies.

As the uncle of Torry Ann Hansen, I can say this in her defense. She loved children and would do anything to make sure they were safe and happy.
She and her two sisters were home schooled, yet all three acheived a college degree with two of them becoming RN's and the third and educator.
Having raised a step-son many years ago with ADHD, and even with all the help possible, this kid threatened to do us harm and to burn down our home. Therefore; I can understand where she is coming from when you can get no help from others to resolve this. She did what she had to in returning the child for their own safety. How would you like to be awakened one night with your house on fire and no way to escape?
These third world countries are pawning off their sick and their mentally retarded kids off on us because we can not get or meet the requirements of the US.
A woman in Montana said it best, she has cared for over a hundred Russian kids that had mental problems and were droped on the US. You are accusing the wrong people here.

Tom, She couldn't even contact social services or go to a child psychiatrist?The Russian Federation didn't seek her out or "drop" this child on her. She's unfit to be a parent, as are any parents who abandon a child. She is also unfit to be a nurse and I hope they take her license away.
Russia is also not the third world. Did you learn about comparative econmics during homeschoolong or was it all puppies and creationism?

Nobody is trying to pawn off any child here. Your niece actively seek out to adopt. You said she did what she had to do for her own safety - what about the safety of the child? Even if there is a history of mental problem with Russian adopted children - shouldn't she have known about it? Had she done her research before decided to adopt a child from Russia?
T-I can understand you defending your family but your niece has left a lot of unanswered questions.
Why was she attempting to adopt ANOTHER foreign child in December?
Why didn't she speak up during the 2 home visits she received?
Why no records showing attempts made by her to get any help for Artyom?
Why are there no school records for either of her children?
Why was he put on a 10 hr plane ride with nothing by sweets to eat?
Your niece may have been overwhelmed but I don't think it was because Artyom had any mental problems.
I think she got in over her head and took a really reprehensible way out.
She treated him like he was a defective piece of merchandise that didn't work and returned him to the store for a refund.

You have blown your own argument. She did not or could not meet the requirements of your own country as she would have been deemed (seemingly so) unsuitable candidate for adoption.

The fact of the matter is that something could've happened to this child. They're not f*ng PETS!!! She should be incarcerated and made to undergo psychiatric treatment for her stupidity. Adoption is largely a scam. Many adoptive parents are lied to by agencies, who don't reveal everything about problems the child has. Regardless, I do think Tory Ann Hansen should never be allowed to adopt another child. She has a disposable mentality.
Whatever happened to Torry-Ann and the child? I hope she had her own children taken away. In fact I hope she's in prison, but I'm thinking it's more likely she got away with it.

Well, Tom and Torry. You are horrible people. Home schooling taught your family nothing except creationism which is a huge disservice to anyone who crosses your path. You could not meet the requirements of the U.S. for adopting a child because they KNEW what kind of people you are.
