I don't hate A.J. Burnett. Who blames him for leaving for the money? Only a fool would turn down $85 million. Likely many New York Yankees he is grossly overpaid.
Yet it is so much fun watching him get hammered by the Jays. The fans at the Rogers Centre I'm sure felt the same way as they gave him a standing ovation when he got the hook in the 3rd inning. Even with the Jays it was hard to like this guy so watching him crash and burn is a lot fun.
Burnett more or less has two pitches - a good fastball and a dynamite curveball. But when your curve isn't hitting the strike zone, a pitcher like Burnett has only a fastball to fall back on. That is why he isn't worth the money. This year Burnett has been struggling with his curveball which is why he has lost 15 games this season. When he was with the Jays, they tried to teach him a changeup but it never happened for him.
But the Jays are a great fastball hitting team which is why they have enjoyed playing against Burnett this season. It also explains Burnett's 9.15 ERA against the Jays.
Well we know he'll be back next year since there is 3 years left on that contract.

Burnett has only 1 victory in the last 3 months, so the Yankees are going to need to give him some run support in Game 4 if they want to avoid having Game 5 be an elimination game.
