Woman trapped at SF airport for 8 days because she couldn't pay baggage fees
Broke and tired of the Northern California expenses, Terri Weissinger was looking for a fresh start; she booked a one-way ticket to Idaho through Orbitz.com. Unfortunately, she had a little more time in California than she anticipated -- eight days to be exact. Because she booked her flight before a new federal law went into effect requiring ticket brokers to disclose all hidden fees, Weissinger didn't know about the extra $60 U.S. Airways would charge at the airport to check her additional bags.
With only $30 left to her name, she had no money to pay the extra fees. So she was stuck at SFO -- for eight miserable days.
Weissinger offered to pay the fee when she arrived in Idaho, but the U.S. Airways agent wouldn't let her. She also asked if she could leave one bag there at the Airport. That, the agent explained, would be in violation of security regulations. By this time, she had missed her flight, and she was stranded, walking the airport for more than a week as the fees and expenses accrued.
Reminds me of a really bad Tom Hanks movie.

Pseudo...true story.
My wife and I went to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for our 20th wedding anniversary back in 1999. It was great.
Except that I broke my foot while on an excursion in a glass bottom boat out at "land's end."
But, it got better.
As we checked in at the airport to finally leave Cabo, the very nice Mexican lady told us that there was a $10 US departure fee (each), payable only in cash.
I was standing there with one house-shoe on (because my foot was broken), limping like god knows what, and the bitch hits me with $20 US just to get the hell out of hell.
We had spent all our US cash on worthless crap at Mexican markets (some of which I still display proudly). So, I asked her if there was an ATM in the airport. Wonder of wonders!!!! NO!
So, here I am...hobbling around the Cabo San Lucas airport (Jeepers...they've got pot-holes in the runways...trust me), with my wife doing her best to shoulder me around...begging for twenty bucks.
Fortunately, I came across a very nice lady from Michigan who understood my plight. She gave me $20 US cash. I got her address, and promised her I'd repay her. Then, I went and paid the Mexican bitch the 20 bucks...which she stuck in her pocket.
Bitch.
I did send the very nice lady from Michigan her twenty dollars back, plus some Zataran's red beans & rice mix, and some Tony Chachere's seasoning...and probably the most grateful note I've ever mustered up.
True story.
Nyuk! My word verification is "andsure"
Really, it's a true story.
I love the story Andy. Intrigued by the Tony Chachere's seasoning.
